Midstream Compressor Station Control Panel
Challenge
A leading midstream energy company required an upgraded control panel for their natural gas compression units at compressor stations in South Oklahoma. The existing systems needed modernization to deliver precise control over engine RPM and compression rates while maintaining strict compliance with EPA emissions regulations.
Solution
OSCO Controls designed and built a custom natural gas compression control panel featuring a Red Lion HMI for enhanced visibility into pressure valves, compression rates, and real-time alarm status. We integrated a new Allen-Bradley ControlLogix 1756-L71 PLC, providing expanded analog and digital I/O capabilities along with significantly increased memory for more advanced control logic and future scalability.
The panel’s structural legs also include convenient access points for measuring pressure and temperature, as well as sampling key liquids used in compressor operation, such as compressor lube oil, coolant (glycol/water mixtures), and other process fluids.
Result
The upgraded control system has optimized compressor and engine performance, delivering greater reliability, safety, and operational efficiency. By incorporating high-end engineered components, the panel helps ensure consistent operation that minimizes harmful emissions, reduces maintenance needs, and lowers costly downtime. The midstream operator now benefits from a modern, robust solution that supports regulatory compliance and maximizes productivity at their Oklahoma compressor stations.
